About
I'm Seren Cartwright, a Welsh animator/illustrator who began their artistic journey at a young age. Originally inspired by pop culture icons Ken Sugimori, Jamie Hewlett and Rebecca sugar my works inspirations are always fantastical in nature. As my work developed I found myself more interested in the dystopic and how it reflects modern society, finding inspiration in artists such as Tony Moore, Hajima Isayama and Wes Anderson which lead to the wide range of styles they produce in their current works. I'm inspired by all mediums of storytelling from animation, film, graphic novel and literature. I feel my work is rarely defined by a specific style and more through themes, as I feel the style of an artwork should reflect the messages being conveyed, rather than what’s most comfortable to create.

I'm a mostly digital based creator, finding absolute control over their imagery to be of utmost importance. While experimentation with traditional media is important to me in order to learn new techniques, styles and textures, the screen is where I feel most at home, importing textures and effects made traditionally into the digital world to add a sense of depth and variation.

Most recentlyI have produced two animated films both surrounding Cymru, with their first film ‘Broga’ featuring 5 separate animation techniques combined and my most recent composition film ‘Gellert’ depicting the Welsh tragedy. My book, ‘King o’ the Cats’ returns to the digital process and is based on an English folktale, based in Kent where I'm currently based, and is the newest addition to my portfolio.
